Q: How do you lock the doors on a 1965 ford falcon?
Just purchased car, they unlock when I close the door.
A: That was a favorite thing about old Fords, you had to go out of your way to lock the keys inside. To lock the front door, you had to hold the button (on the handle) in and close the door by hand. OR, to look really COOL, you and your partner got out opened the back doors (if you had fours doors), reach over the seat and locked the front doors, then locked the back doors and slammed them shut at the same time. The back doors did not require holding the button in like the front did. It was something we did in high school way back when those cars were almost new.

Q: 1965 Ford Falcon Straight 6 engine, can anyone help?
Lately it has been making an odd noise whenever I hit 45mph or more. It sounds like something is vibrating. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks guys.
Its Automatic, and it recently started to vibrate while in Neutral as well. I can drive through it but it's still got me worried. My steering wheel does not vibrate so I don't think it's got anything to do with that. The noise comes from the front. if I'm driving under 40, it does not vibrate.
It's just a sound, the car itself does does not vibrate.
A: U-joints on the drive shaft are worn.
With it in neutral, parking brake set, slide under it and try to shake the drive shaft. If it moves at all, replace them.

A: use the alternator and brackets out of an xf falcon. nearly any ford wreckers can supply this for you. it will be a sraight forward bolt in fit. these bosch units are not only very cheap to buy, they are also a dime a dozen if you ever need a replacement.

the door handles have thick plastic rings under them at pivot point and no room for tool. no back side acess. need help
A: I have a 66 Mustang. Might be same as yours. My handles have a small screw in the middle of the handle and there is no C-clip behind the rings. Look at the outside of the handle for a screw head. It might be an Allen wrench head or Phillips head and turn them counter-clockwise to remove the screw. Note the location of the handles so you can put them back in the correct position and then they should just pull off.

Q: Does airconditioner in Ford Falcon 1965 have a fuse. ?
Took our vehicle in for service..Went in the air conditioner was working came out of workshop conditioner did not work..When we would start the vehicle there was a definite click but of course this does not happen now..Can some kind person advise if there is a fuse for the air conditioner and also should the fans behind the radiator work all the time or do they come on when the motor reaches a certain temperature ...Thank you very much for your trouble..

I own a 1965 Ford Falcon and when I cruise around, some guys give me a head knod, ask my name, want my number or buy me a drink or whatever they have to offer. But when I drive my every day car. They dont seem to car one way or the other.

A: A women that appreciates old school cars is cool, likes one of the the things that most guys appreciate. She has class and was probably taught a few things about cars and men, not a "Barbie" type. She probably won't send you to the poor house being high maintenance. Probably won't get caught up chasing the Joneses. She knows what she likes, is fun to be with, and is self confident.

A: It's a miniture charger in looks, personally I would not buy any new model the first year that it comes out as there are gremblins with the first year of production that hopefully they cure a lot of them in the second year of production.

Q: What is the best owner/mechanic car to work on, 1950-2006?
I'm heard that old VW's might be the answer. All the newer cars are very reliable, but hard to work on. I'm looking for a simple car. I had a 1965 Ford Falcon that was pretty easy to work on , but now parts would be a problem.
A: Before I get started, please allow me to dispell two often repeated myths. Keep in mind that his comes from someone who has been repairing, building, restoring and racing air-cooled VW's for over 35 years as both a personal hobby and a professional mechanic.
1. All parts for older Volkswagens ARE NOT still made or even readily available today. Depending on the year and model, many or even most parts are still available new and the rest can usually be found in good used condition. That being said, again depending on the year and model of car, you might find those parts to be simply too rich for your blood, especially body and trim parts. For example, the pair of tail lights (yes, tail lights) I just sold that were in decent used condition even though some of the parts were missing. The man was happy to get them for only $400. Imagine what he has tied up into the rest of his car.
2. Old Volkswagens are no easier to work on than most cars of equal vintage. As with any car ever built, VW's have things that are easy to do and things that are hard to do. Ask the responder above if he's ever disassembled and rebuilt a split case Type I transaxle for example. My crystal ball says no.
So, where does that leave us? Depending upon your mechanical apptitude, your budget, your workspace and most importantly your desires, an ACVW may be the car for you. Cars and parts for the 1958 and newer Beetles are still in general readily available and relatively inexpensive. Type II (Bus), Type III (fast/square/notchbacks), Type IV and Ghia stuff is always more expensive and usually harder to find, except for the mechanical bit's that are interchangable. If this is your first real project, your best bet would probably be to go with a standard Bug, '68 or newer because they're less sought after at this time and therefore cheaper. Parts are also the most readily available.
Because you mentioned owning a Falcon in the past, I'll assume you're either from the US or Canada. There are many American cars that would also fit your needs. Have you considered another Falcon? How about a Dart, Valiant, Chevy II or Rambler American? The beauty of these cars (and many more) is that they were built in huge quantities so used parts will be available well into the future and many of them have large followings so new parts are also available. The mechanical parts can be had by simply going to your nearest parts store and waiting overnight. They are also extremely simple to work on, which is your real question.
You have many options in this undertaking of yours, but first you have to set some guidleines and answer some questions like those posed above.
